The New Shiz

Ugh. It's been a while. But it's been a rough and rushed year for me thus far. Things are slowing down for me now tho whether I want them to or not, and I'll be working on more 'stable' stuffs, so I'm going to try and be a bit better about this sorta thing from now on. For a few reasons...

So this is some new skin I was testing out.
[clicky for 'full view'...or some junk...]

Raw render. No post-work. (That is to say: it'll look better when it's animated.)

So it's not complete, and could definitely use some work. (Ugh! I'm already noticing stuff I missed!) And the hair is just 'placeholder'. (I have nother new toy for that I get to play with next!) (=
Everything's 'live' though. Nothing's 'faked'. So the reflections in her eyes and stuff like that are from the 'studio' she's in. (Which I created the lighting for as well.)

Also, this is not a specific character in particular. Just a 'random' one created 'from the ground-up' for testing. I mean, as long as she's about 95% complete anyway (except for the hair) I'm sure I'll use her for something eventually. This was just done as a workflow I can use to develop any new character in about a day or so.

So those of you kids who have been 'following along'...for the 'not-really-live-action' aspects of "Winter Wonderland" Evelyn's character will look at least this good. Better actually. This isn't her...but it could be.

I could fuss with it more, but it was never meant to be a 'finished piece', it's as done as I need it to be, and I wanna go play with other things now. (Like that hair...and clothing simulation...and music...! Oh my!) [=

thx for looking!

The first shot is away!

(click for larger version...)

Yeah... I know. It's just a boring old star-field... (or is it...!?!) but trust me: when you see the rest of the shot, it's a doozy. I'd actually put it in the top-3 of shots I've conceived of...

Also I should mention, this is the first shot of the trailer, not the first shot of the film. The trailer is comprised of original footage, separate from the film, and needed to be completed first as a test platform and proof-of-concept for the rest of the movie.

So the render should be wrapping up any minute now. I'm gonna go put it together! =D

Cyber-Chick for Roc-Con

Suuuper excited for Roc-Con, and when I asked what they had for cover art for the program, it was suggested that I could submit something. So here is what I've come up with so far:

(wip) Click for larger image...

Didn't want to spend too much time on this (and spent way more time than I might've liked, as always) but I think I put much more attention to detail in this one than I have in the past, and didn't really cut any corners on it. Still, I would've liked to have spent another week with it just to customize a lot of it more and given more time to the textures.

Due to time constraints, I had to kit-bash some of this together. A keen Star Wars eye will notice one of the engines from a Y-Wing, the laser from a frigate, and a portion of the leg of an AT-ST. [=

I'll see what they say and post the final when it's complete.

May the 4th be with you!

I decided to spend my day watching the entire saga while working on this piece, which I call Eye of the Storm'. No real `rhyme or reason' to the scene except that it's mostly comprised of a few of my favorite (Star Wars) things.

While not exactly my greatest work...I did put all of it together today (and I'm about 15minutes into Jedi now...) I didn't do any of the modeling (except for a bit of alterations to the helmet to get it to at least hold up in HD...) but I didn't have any of it `assemebled' before today.

It's all `in-scene' as well (which I'm a big fan of whenever I can get away with it.) This is all one render. The trickiest part was getting it all to line-up in the reflection properly. I suppose if I was trying to pick a project to do in 1 day, I could've picked something a little easier. lol Maybe next year I'll just do the shuttle, or just do the walker or something.

sketching

I'm never without anything to do, but I don't want to lose my drawing ability. This is the first sketch I've done since I broke my wrist. Still a little rusty, and I had to put my cast back on yesterday because my forearm hurt so bad. (Haven't done that since I first took it off either!) Admittedly, I did over do it a bit.

I couldn't decide what to draw for my first sketch in so long. In art class, we would always ask a person at the table, (comprised primarily of comic book artists,) "What to draw?" and they would pick something. I was sitting next to my nephew at the time, and I thot, "Wow! I have an incredible pool of creativity sitting right next to me." So of course, I turned to him and asked, "What to draw?" He immediately responded, "A golem." I asked, "Flesh, clay, stone, or iron," (the `primary' 4 I knew of from my D&D days...) to which he responded, "Stone." And I said, "Awesome, that's my favorite type." So that's what I drew. = )

His limbs are s'poseta be separated, held together and articulated by the `magic' used to create him. This would prolly make a lot more sense if it were properly inked and colored. I seem to have that problem with a lot of my sketches... But "Ain't nobody got time fo' dat!" xD j/k

Ideally, this'll be the first of many. Just gotta give my forearm another day-or-so to recooperate.
Also purchased my table for Roc-Con today! =D  (More on that soon...) So it's kinda `apropros' that I post this today as well.

(Still headlong into the Christmas special - trailer's up next - with a brief side-step to get the KickStarter for the book ready first.)

Script's done!

The script for "Winter Wonderland" is complete! Well...the first draft anyway... I'm sure I'll generate at least another draft as I storyboard it, which is what I'll be working on as soon as I complete the trailer.

It sits at just about 40 pages, and I'm pretty durn happy with it. It's a little less `structured' than anything else I've written I think, and for me that's not a bad thing. Ironically enuf, it was far more outlined than anything else I've written as well, but I still had to `brute-force' my way thru the 3rd act... Again tho, it turned out pretty well methinks.

Alright! The trailer's the next bit o' bitness, so I'll be storyboarding that as soon as I finish up the new title graphic...
